Turmeric starring Curcumin
(oxidation and inflammation don't stand a chance)
For thousands of years, the curcumin in the turmeric root was used in traditional Indian (Ayurvedic) and Chinese Medicine. The use of herbs and spices is based on many years of their effectiveness against various conditions. Curcumin has garnered quite a following and has earned much respect from the research community.
So much so that there are clinical trials being conducted in the United States and worldwide on the spice. Various forms of cancer, asthma, dermatitis, insulin resistance, Alzheimer's Disease, inflammatory bowel disease, and arthritis are just some of the conditions that are being investigated with curcumin. Several common drugs and supplements are having their efficiency tested compared to or inconjunction with curcumin; ibuprofen, sulindac, celebrex, and resveratrol to name a few.
In reference to curcumin and Alzheimer's Disease, Dr. Cole stated "We are continuing to try to move curcumin forward as a potential therapy or method of prevention for this terrible disease." Curcumin is available as a spice in your local grocery store (you may have to look for Turmeric or Tumric) in either glass or metal containers. Most anywhere they sell dietary supplements you will find curcumin.
There is still debate as to what qualifies as a theraputic dose of curcumin.
